Fame and celebrity

Pavlovic jammed to Oasis and Green Day as a 10-year-old – now his songs are part of The Summer I Turned Pretty’s soundtrack

Australian indie-pop duo Royel Otis, comprised of lead singer Otis Pavlovic and guitarist Royel Maddell, shared a cryptic snap on Instagram on Wednesday featuring Pavlovic on a sofa with The Summer I Turned Pretty’s Lola Tung resting her head on his lap and looking into the camera. Aside from the intriguing image, the caption, “(who’s your boyfriend)”, immediately sent fans into a frenzy; they flooded the comment section questioning Tung’s relationship status.

“THEY’RE DATINGGGG???!” asked one user, while several posted gifs of a sad-faced Conrad Fisher, Tung’s love interest on The Summer I Turned Pretty, played by Christopher Briney.

However, the image shared by Royel Otis is most likely a teaser for the music video of “who’s your boyfriend”, a track on their upcoming album hickey set for release on August 22.

But just who is Royel Otis’ vocalist – and Lola Tung’s potential latest leading man – Otis Pavlovic?

He fell in love with music early on

Pavlovic discovered his love for music at a young age. In an interview with Clash, the Aussie – who’s now in his mid-20s – recalled jamming out with his friend as a 10-year-old.

“I would hang out with my friend. To have something to do, we would just play guitar, do covers of songs and stuff, and try out our own songs. It was around then that I started getting into music. It was just something to do. We would play Oasis and Green Day, that kind of stuff.”

In the same interview, the “Molly” singer talks about how he watched his musically inclined father write songs and play instruments in the house.
