Malachi Barton hails from Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he was born to Felicia and Loren Barton. His mother is a musician, composer and actress, who has singing credits in Encanto (2021) and hosts the MOMager podcast with her husband and son. She also worked on the soundtrack of Pretty Little Liars and the theme song of DuckTales.
In an interview with parenting information website Parents, Felicia shared that she “never wanted to push music on [Malachi]”. Instead, he started acting when he was five. “We wanted him to do what he is great at and let mum and dad bear the weight of the rest of it,” Felicia recalled, before revealing that the couple has transitioned into an “assistant-type position” now.
