Katie Leung was born in August 1987 to Hong Kong businessman Peter Leung and Kar Wai Li in Dundee, Scotland. Leung’s parents divorced early in her childhood and she continued to live in Scotland with her father while her mother returned to Hong Kong.

Growing up, Leung’s family had to relocate often due to her father’s work, and she spent her childhood hopping between towns in Scotland and Hong Kong. “During my teenage years I did enjoy partying a lot. Hong Kong was a great place to party. I enjoyed the weather and it was bustling, with so much culture. I went four times in a year, which is pretty insane given it is a 16-hour flight from Scotland,” Leung told The Herald Scotland.
