One character has had it particularly hard in recent episodes: Perlah Alawi. The Filipino Muslim nurse, played by Filipino-American actress Amielynn Abellera, had grown close to Louie and breaks down when he passes away. “Louie’s family. Louie is family, and he’s my favourite patient. He’s minutes away from being discharged – minutes – and this happens,” Abellera lamented in an interview with Decider.
So, who is Amielynn Abellera?

Abellera hails from Stockton, California. Her age is unclear, but IMDB suggests that she was born on April 29. Her parents are immigrants and she grew up Catholic, per Ebby Magazine. Abellera told the outlet that her father worked as a doctor and her mother is a nurse. She also has pharmacists, dentists and physical therapists in her family.
“Growing up in a family of healthcare professionals, I observed first-hand the strength, commitment and resilience necessary to work in healthcare,” she said.
