Meet Irene Choi, who plays intern Joy on The Pitt – and who graduated from Harvard
STORYSumnima Kandangwa

The Harvard grad with a Korean background has enjoyed a string of TV successes including the Emmy award-winning medical drama
HBO’s Primetime Emmy award-winning medical drama series The Pitt and its cast returned to our screens for a second season early this year. The new season introduced a host of new characters – including actress Irene Choi’s Joy Kwon, a sarcastic and no-nonsense third-year medical student who goes head to head with one of the least likeable characters on the show, James Ogilvie (Lucas Iverson).
In episode 12 of the second season, Joy reaches the end of her shift and clocks out despite the ER being busier than usual. When Dr Frank Langdon attempts to persuade her to stay, Joy is firm on her boundaries and refuses to burn out like everyone else on the show – easily making her one of the mentally healthiest characters.
