Rapper 50 Cent sells his mansion at a huge discount – here’s what it looks like, inside and out
Rapper 50 Cent has been trying to sell his 52-room mansion in Connecticut for 12 years. Now he finally has – at an 84 per cent price cut, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Here’s a look inside the mansion.
It was reportedly bought by a Florida businessman named Casey Askar, who owns several national quick-service restaurants including Papa Romano’s, Papa's Pizza To-Go, Blackjack Pizza, Mr. Pita, Stucchi's Ice Cream and CJ's Brewing Company.
The property is located in Farmington, a town in central Connecticut about 40 miles from New Haven.
The entrance to the property is marked with a stately-looking gate and a lion statue.
The home is set back in the trees at the end of a long driveway.
50 Cent's house was originally listed at US$18.5 million in 2007, making the sale price of US$2.9 million an 84 per cent discount.
The 21-bedroom mansion opens into a shining foyer with duelling wood-panelled staircases.
The floors appear to be made of marble.
In the listing photos, a Weber grand piano sits just off of the entrance hall.
50 Cent bought the Farmington home from the former boxer Mike Tyson for US$4.1 million in 2003.
The transaction set a record for the most expensive home sale in Farmington.
The roughly 50,000-square-foot mansion has seen several price cuts over the past 12 years. It was most recently listed at US$4.995 million.
The interiors are as lavish as you might expect.
Jonathan Miller, a national real-estate appraiser, told Realtor.com that 50 Cent’s house took so long to sell because “it’s just oversized for the market,” adding, “When you have a property that is well outside the norm, it takes a lot longer to sell.”
50 Cent was reportedly spending US$70,000 a month in utility bills, maintenance, and other expenses for the sprawling estate.
One of the spacious bedrooms overlooks the tree-lined yard.
A sleek spiral staircase leads to an upper level.
The bathroom includes a large soaking tub overlooking the yard.
… and a glass-door shower and a walk-in wardrobe.
The wardrobe is designed with glass doors to show off the clothing.
The home also comes with an outdoor basketball court …
… emblazoned with G Unit, the name of the hip-hop group 50 Cent was once a part of.
The home is designed for entertaining, with a billiards room …
… a nightclub …
… several gaming rooms …
… and an indoor basketball court …
… as well as a recording studio, a fitness Centre, multiple guest houses, and a home cinema with blue velvet walls that can seat eight people in leather reclining chairs.
There's also a conference room for more professional pursuits.
In addition to the basketball court outside, the tree-filled grounds include a pond and guest house.
A water feature decorates the centre of the pond.
A pool with a stone archway and foliage has likely hosted more than a few extravagant pool parties.
Lounge chairs with sun blinds make for a relaxing spot by the pool.
The pool extends into a hidden grotto.
There's also an indoor pool lined with glass walls.
A representative for 50 Cent told The Journal that the proceeds of the house's sale would be donated to the G-Unity Foundation.
