Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt's former home in Beverly Hills, California, is for sale for US$56 million, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The current owner, Jonathan Brooks, a hedge fund executive who founded Smithwood Partners, bought the home after the actress and actor were divorced in 2006.

Aniston and Pitt had bought the 12,000-square-foot (1,115 square-metre) house for US$13.1 million in 2001 from the entertainment lawyer Ken Ziffren and then spent three years renovating it.

They added features including heated marble floors in the kitchen and a bar room with wooden floors imported from a 200-year-old French castle.

The home, described by reports as a “French Normandy Revival property”, has four bedrooms and comes with a swimming pool, a large outdoor space and a tennis court. The property agent is Susan Smith of Hilton & Hyland.

The house is situated in one of Los Angeles’ most upmarket neighbourhoods.

The area, beloved by celebrities, is about 11 miles (17km) from the city centre and 13 miles from Los Angeles International Airport.

The four-bedroom house, built in the 1930s, was originally designed by the architect Wallace Neff for the American actor Fredric March and his actress wife, Florence Eldridge.

Aniston and Pitt lived in the house for less than two years.

The kitchen’s black and white marble floor is heated.

Anniston and Pitt also created a room with a bar.

A marble fireplace anchors the dining room, which can seat up to 20 people.

The spacious lounge features floor-to-ceiling windows …

… and opens directly onto the back garden and swimming pool.

Like many Southern California homes, this property was designed to merge indoor and outdoor living.

The house, which sits on 1.2 acres (0.5 hectares) of land, includes a spacious outdoor area for dining and entertaining.

The swimming pool area includes shaded lounge chairs and privacy hedges.

Brooks added the tennis court to the property after buying it from Aniston and Pitt.

The US$56 million price tag may seem extravagant, but it's in line with other homes in the neighbourhood.

A nearby property, which once belonged to actor Danny DeVito, was reportedly sold recently for about US$66 million.
