Here’s a shiny new piece of technology that you cannot ignore. For those who love gadgets and bling – Los Angeles-based designer Ian Delucca has created something for you. In adding a dash of glamour to your plain-Jane headphones, the maverick has unveiled AirPods encrusted with dazzling diamonds.
Part of the “NEW MATERIALISM” series which aims to fuse art and commerce, Delucca has unveiled the exclusive piece entitled Object No. 1.
An ode to Apple’s earphones, the novel creation decks the AirPods in white gold and 1,000 individual VVS natural, mined diamonds. Each of the pieces is inscribed with an edition number and creation date and comes with a marble stand for charging.
Object No. 1 AirPods is limited to 25 units, priced at US$20,000 each. The diamond-encrusted wonders can be bought only via a direct message inquiry on the artist’s Instagram page before public release. Although there isn’t much word about the rest of the pieces in the “NEW MATERIALISM” series, other recent offerings by Delucca include his exclusive diamond and gold tooth fillings for clients, as well as a redesign of the YEEZY 700 Analog. For now – we’re dazzled enough with the glistening AirPods.
