Valentino Garavani to sell his Tuscany summer home – where Sophia Loren once slept – for US$13 million

Lavishly decorated 15-bedroom property which was built in Tuscany, Italy, in 1750 and sits on a 27-acre estate, includes a room named in honour of Italian film star
Italians have a saying – “class is not water” – meaning it’s innate, extraordinary and reflects on all aspects of life.
So when glamorous fashion meets historical architecture and high-end design, the outcome can only be spellbinding. Let alone when one of the world’s greatest stylists blends the three with his signature touch into a deluxe palace which can now be yours.
The King of Couture, Valentino Garavani, 87, the founder of his eponymous fashion brand, and his lifetime partner businessman Giancarlo Giammetti are selling their lavish summer home, Villa La Vagnola, dating from the mid-1700s in Tuscany, Italy, for €12 million (US$13 million).

The property, located in the elegant, picturesque medieval town of Cetona in the heart of the Val d’Orcia region – Tuscany’s most exclusive and untouched corner – has been Valentino’s summer residence for the past 33 years.
“They would escape here from Rome’s frenetic lifestyle: it’s their retreat where they could find peace, silence and relax, and occasionally hold fashion events and parties”, Riccardo Romolini of Romolini Immobiliare, the real estate agency handling the sale, which is an affiliate of Christie’s.
The setting is ideal: the residence overlooks the sunny main piazza at a walking distance from the cafes and restaurants, but at the same time is hidden and tucked away far into the Tuscan countryside, within a fully-fenced piece of fertile land granting unrivalled privacy
The villa comprises an 11-hectare (27-acre) estate with a private park, vines, a winter and summer garden, swimming pool and olive groves that extends from the village to the surrounding hills. It has direct access from the town’s main piazza, but also features other secret and hidden entrances that allow access to the manor house away from prying eyes.
