Water-resistant, noise-cancelling, a new look and a higher price tag – everything we know about Apple’s new wireless headphones, which could be on sale in 2019

Apple might have released a new pair of AirPods in March, but the trendsetting tech firm is already hard at work crafting the next generation of its trademark wireless earphones.

Apple's recently launched AirPods include an optional wireless charging case and the company's new H1 chip, which enables hands-free Siri access and better performance.

But while these new AirPods bring welcome updates, they represent no major departure from Apple's first-generation model. And now reports indicate that Apple may be planning more significant upgrades soon.

It sounds like the next gen AirPods could be ready as soon as late 2019 or early 2020. Apple plans to launch a new pair of AirPods “by next year” according to Bloomberg, which suggests that the new wireless headphones could debut at the end of 2019.

Meanwhile, TFI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says new AirPods could be on shelves sometime between the fourth quarter of 2019 and the first quarter of 2020, according to 9to5Mac.

Apple is said to be working on not one but two new AirPods models, according to 9to5Mac. One of these new models will feature an all-new design, Kuo also said, although he did not elaborate on what that would entail. The other model would be an update to the current version.
