As the fifth centibillionaire and fifth-wealthiest person in the world, Elon Musk devotes most of his time to being the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX. But like anyone, he needs some downtime now and then – here are five things that the tech mogul enjoys besides obsessing over space travel, electric cars (and collecting his own sizeable garage of motors, electric and otherwise).

He devours books

It is no secret that the real-life Iron Man is a certified bookworm. Elon Musk’s mind was exposed to books from an early age while growing up in South Africa. It came to a point where nine-year-old Musk had already read everything in the local library. Reading that ranged from fantasy and sci-fi novels to biographies and structural engineering gave him heroes to look up to and inspired him to build rockets.

He likes baking cookies on Sundays

How does this 49-year-old serial entrepreneur spend his weekends? Baking cookies! In a 2016 tweet, Elon Musk shared how baking on a Sunday morning should not even be a question. As it turns out, his younger brother and restaurateur Kimbal Musk is not the only one in the family who has skills in the kitchen.

He throws the coolest parties

Though Elon Musk often makes the news for his companies’ out-of-this-world inventions, he has also made headlines in the past for his blowout parties. According to Ashlee Vance‘s book, Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX and the Quest for a Fantastic Future, Musk’s previous birthdays and office celebrations have included a rented castle in England where the guests played hide-and-seek and a costume party in Venice where he dressed as a knight. He has recently thrown an “AI party/hackathon” at his house.

He loves to play video games

The eccentric billionaire is also an avid gamer. This should come as no surprise since Elon Musk even sold a video game called Blastar for US$500 when he was merely 12 years old, and once worked at a gaming start-up called Rocket Science. Attributing his interest in computers and tech to playing video games, his favourites include Deus Ex, Fallout and BioShock.

He enjoys watching shows on streaming services

Despite his jam-packed daily schedule, Elon Musk still finds time to binge-watch series on Netflix and HBO. He revealed before that he has seen Silicon Valley, which centres on a fictional tech company, and Black Mirror, which explores humanity‘s relationship to technology. The business mogul has even guest-starred in several shows like The Big Bang Theory and The Simpsons, as well as in the movie Iron Man 2. You wouldn’t bet against him publishing a book or producing a TV series – once he has ticked off his greatest mission, that is – the little matter of putting a human on Mars.
