Atacama Desert, Chile

Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, New Zealand

The 4,300 square km Aoraki Mackenzie reserve is best known for having the largest dark-sky reserve.

Located in New Zealand’s South Island on a high plateau surrounded by mountains, the reserve includes the country’s premier astronomical research centre, the Mount John Observatory.
