A look inside British Airways' brand new first-class luxury cabins

First class passengers taking flights with British Airways will notice a number changes, including a new à la carte menu, afternoon tea service, foam-fibre mattress topper pads, and 400-thread-count bedding.

The first class cabins are undergoing a minor makeover at British Airways, the United Kingdom’s national carrier and largest airline.

The company, which this year is celebrating its centenary – marking 100 years since airline operations began in the United Kingdom – is determined to make its first-class passengers experience comfort that’s on a par with a five-star hotel.

If you are a regular first-class traveller with the airline, from March 31, you will notice a change to its on-board menus and bedding.

British Airways is serving a new afternoon tea service in first class, which includes a selection of sandwiches, scones, pastries and teas.

To begin with, a new à la carte menu has been curated, allowing guests to choose from a plethora of dishes prepared from seasonal ingredients.

In keeping with the British customary ritual of afternoon tea, passengers will be offered a new afternoon tea service, featuring a selection of sandwiches, scones, pastries and teas.

If you are paying for first class, then only bone china tableware is acceptable. So British Airways has asked English manufacturer William Edwards to customise tableware for the airline, in addition to the silverware which will be produced by award-winning English cutlery maker, Studio William.

First-class passengers can relax using Temperley London loungewear and a selection of skincare products in an amenities bag from Elemis.

Long-haul flights can be tiring, so the carrier has made special efforts to offer first-class passengers a foam-fibre mattress topper pad, coupled with 400-thread-count cotton bedding for ultimate comfort.

Travellers can also lounge around at 32,000 feet (9,800 metres) in the comfort of Temperley London loungewear and enjoy amenity bag filled with skincare products from Elemis.

Lastly, Meridian headphones will accompany you throughout your flight as you browse through their impressive 1,000 hours of in-flight entertainment.

Carolina Martinoli, British Airways’ director of brand and customer experience, said the airline’s “teams of designers, chefs, and customer service experts have carefully thought through the details [they] know matter most to customers”.

She said as the airline was celebrating its centenary this year is had “sought out some of the best British designers and manufacturers to work with, to ensure travelling in first with British Airways is an unforgettable experience”.

The Aircraft Transport and Travel Limited, the forerunner to British Airways, started operations on August 25, 1919 when it launched the world’s first daily international scheduled air service between London and Paris. British Airways was created in 1974.
