Which ‘K Tours’ are giving K-drama fans a taste of their favourite Korean soap?
Fans can relive all the action on the film sets of their favourite Korean soaps
South Korea is fast becoming popular for destination holidays, as Korean drama series attract a growing band of global followers. Colloquially known as “K Tours”, television series or film-themed tours are now packaged to allow fans to immerse themselves in their favourite Korean soap.
From breathtaking natural vistas to romantic cityscapes, it is hardly surprising that only the most dramatic plotlines were conjured in South Korea’s beautifully diverse landscape.
Here are five top locations that have doubled as K-drama sets.
For period dramas, a Korean folk village
The Minsok Korean Folk Village is a must-see for any hard core K-drama fan. Experience the astounding film location for period drama Dae Jang Geum (Jewel in the Palace) and My Love from the Stars, among many others. Dae Jang Geum, starring actress Lee Young-ae, creates a Chosun-era landscape with the whimsical vignettes and age-old architecture of the village.
Klook offers tours around the area, led by KTourStory, including an opportunity to explore Gwangmyeong Cave theme park or ride the Uiwang Rail Bike.
For more period dramas, Suncheon Open Film Set
Reportedly the largest film set in South Korea, Suncheon Open Film Set hosts three mock villages from different eras, 1960-1980s. Spanning around 12,000 square metres, the set remains a go-to for film and TV shoots, including soap opera East of Eden and 2006’s Love and Ambition. Spend a few hours reliving your favourite scenes before checking out the local fare around Suncheon.
