What makes the rum-based Cubana taste like a Cuban cigar?

Ever wanted to drink a Cuban cigar? As strange as that might sound, Bloomsbury Atelier, a one-of-a-kind distillery based in London, has unveiled Cubana, a limited-edition drink that has distilled the exotic flavours and senses of Cuba.

The rum-based spirit marks the first in a series of “geographical spirits” produced by the atelier, with the objective of creating drinks that home in on their respective countries’ trademark ingredients.
Cubana is said to have the “Cuban cigar at its core”, distilled with cigar tobacco, cured black lime and fermented cacao nibs, and transmitted via Hi-Ester Jamaican rum distilled from cane juice.
There will be fewer than 4,000 bottles available globally, sold exclusively through European fine wine and spirit merchant, FINE + RARE, at HK$2,500 (US$319) a 70cl-bottle.

The spirits at the Bloomsbury Atelier are produced once a year in a single batch, which makes them extremely rare and unique.
Fortunately, Cubana’s worldwide debut is in Hong Kong.
Although the price might seem elitist, the drinking procedure is a free-for-all: sip it neat, enjoy it on the rocks or blend it with native ingredients for a delicious cocktail – the choice is yours.
