After Pokémon and Hello Kitty, Toki no Yoake Monotagari is Japan’s quirky new luxe train service

Japan’s latest luxury train, Toki no Yoake Monogatari, will run between Kochi Station and the Kubokawa Station and connect Shikoku island with the Shinkansen bullet train rail network.

Japan and its obsession with special train concepts do not seem to end. After introducing luxe locomotives themed on Kyoto homes and Pokémon, the country now welcomes the luxurious Toki no Yoake Monogatari. Set to traverse the lesser-known paths of the nation, the train offers a perfect journey for those in love with fine things and the offbeat.

The train will run between Kochi Station and the Kubokawa Station and connects Shikoku, the smallest of Japan’s four main islands, with the Shinkansen bullet train rail network. Shikoku is a gem of nature, and visitors will be able to travel across the island while enjoying stunning countryside.

The two-car, 47-passenger train depicts a “flow of time” theme and comes decorated with imagery of the sun and moon on the outside and a ceiling full of stars on the inside.

It houses personal seats along with counters or tables for a more intimate setting. The Toki no Yoake Monogatari will pass through two separate routes and will offer guests a range of culinary delights on the 70km journey.

Luxury with a twist of the offbeat? That is how we enjoy our travels.
