Want a Japanese holiday full of exciting food and hot springs? Then these easy walking tours are for you

Macaques bathe in hot springs in Nagano, Japan. Walk Japan has put together two five-day walking tours through lesser-known parts of the country.

Japan remains one of Asia’s most popular destinations and areas such as Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka continue topping the list. But beyond big metropolitan cities, visitors are increasingly looking for off-the-beaten path experiences – and Japan still offers plenty.

Immersing into Japan’s food scene and trying out onsen (hot springs) like a local are often at the top of people’s lists.

So why not combine both?

Tour company Walk Japan has put together two new five-day walking tours later in the year to offer “the best of gastronomy and the art of onsen”. Each guided walk is over easy terrain and limited up to 10 kilometres each day, giving participants ample time to take in the sights and experience the culture. Group sizes are capped at an intimate number of 12 people.
