Cardi B’s ruby nipple caps, Lady Gaga’s 15-carat Tiffany ring and Gemma Chan’s jewels add sparkle to Met Gala

Cardi B's ruby nipple jewels are from Hong Kong-based jewellery brand Stefere.

All eyes were on the fashions at this year’s Met Gala, in New York, on Monday – the annual fundraiser for the Met’s Costume Institute – but some of the jewellery on display proved just as much of a show-stopper.

This year’s theme, “Camp: Notes on Fashion”, gave everyone a free pass to over-accessorise their over-the-top looks with equally over-the-top gems.

Striking costumes might be singer-actress Lady Gaga’s forte, but the multitalented performer has been making heads turn with her jewellery choices in several of her recent appearances.

She’s got a taste for Tiffany & Co.’s bold gemstones and dramatic elegance, and has opted to wear diamonds from the house at career-defining moments, such as this year’s Oscars.

She wore diamonds and lots of coloured gemstone rings from Tiffany & Co. to walk the pink carpet at the Met Gala.

The 15-carat Tiffany True diamond ring Lady Gaga wore is said to be worth about HK$9 million (US$1.1 million) and the matching earrings HK$2.7 million.

Model and television personality Kendall Jenner found the perfect match for her orange feathery dress in the 2019 Tiffany Blue Book Collection: an 18-carat gold, orange topaz and diamond necklace.

She also wore an 8-carat orange sapphire ring worth HK$340,000.

Rapper Cardi B wowed the crowd in her sweeping red Thom Browne gown featuring a sparkling bodice accented with a pair of ruby nipples. The crimson accents are from Stefere, a jewellery brand founded by Hong Kong-based designer Corina Mihaila Larpin. Dubbed the Stefere Ruby Nipples, the gown’s 44 carats of rubies are said to be worth about US$250,000.

Also dressed in jewels from the Hong Kong designer is Zendaya, who completed her Cinderella look with a diamond flower ring, a pair of chandelier earrings and three diamond chokers.

Actress Lily Collins dressed up her elegant look with dramatic emerald designs from Cartier.

She was the first to wear Cartier’s new Magnitude High Jewellery Collection and she opted for a necklace set with seven Colombian emeralds totalling 46.09 carats, paired with matching earrings with the same gemstone.

Miley Cyrus layered archive pieces from Bulgari with earrings and rings from the jeweller’s Serpenti collection.

The actress added a touch of drama to her green and black sequinned dress with emerald bracelets and rings, also from Bulgari.

Actress Gemma Chan looked a superhero with her icicle-like headdress and silver cape.

She added power to her look with lots of diamonds from Forevermark. She stacked bracelets from several of Forevermark’s collections and topped of her look with a 10-carat emerald cut-diamond ring.

Her Crazy Rich Asians co-star, Awkwafina, wore pieces from Bulgari’s more popular contemporary collections, Serpenti and Divas. She paired the serpent-inspired earrings with the Dream ring from the Divas collection.

Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot, who was dressed in silver on Monday, paired her look with a generous mix of white diamond pieces from Tiffany & Co. – framing her face with a pair of white diamond chandelier earrings from the jeweller worth HK$1,440,000 (US$183,000).

Never one to blend in, the sexy Jennifer Lopez accessorised her barely there silver dress with jewels from Harry Winston. She opted for purple sapphires and diamonds, mixing and matching pieces in the two shades for a glamorous, old Hollywood look.

She wore the Purple Dragon Necklace, set with a 65.32-carat purple sapphire, with a total of 129.48 carats of sparkle.

She also layered on the shine with bracelets, earrings and rings from Harry Winston, totalling more than 180 carats.

Another actress, Lupita Nyong’o, added to her colourful look with a vintage Bulgari necklace featuring a 41-carat cabochon emerald surrounded by amethysts from the jeweller’s archival vault.

She also wore rings from Bulgari’s yet-to-launch 2019 high jewellery collection.

Priyanka Chopra and her husband, singer Nick Jonas, both chose to bedazzle their looks with jewellery pieces from Chopard.

The actress added to her outfit with diamonds and coloured gems.

Her armour of choice were armfuls of diamond and spinel bangles and three pendants from Chopard’s Happy Diamonds Collection.

She also added some colour to her otherwise monochromatic look with a pair of pink sapphire briolette earrings from Chopard’s Copacabana Collection.

However, she was outshone by her husband, who wore a necklace with more than 60 carats of diamonds, as well as a 3.07-carat diamond ring and diamond watch from the Imperiale Collection.

Demi Moore wore Harry Winston’s iconic Secret Cluster collection, and completed her look with several rings, earrings and a perfume bottle necklace, hand carved in rock crystal, and set with 20.27-carat diamonds.

Supermodel and Met Gala regular, Naomi Campbell, also looked to Bulgari’s archive for inspiration this year, by layering an armful of ruby and diamond bracelets. Some of her Bulgari jewellery choices dated from 1959.
