What’s one of the greatest perks that comes with being a princess? Access to the crown jewels, of course.

Royal jewels not only reflect the monarch’s wealth but kinship within the family. Some jewels come with a storied history, while others boast unique links to a specific member of royalty.

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, frequently wears pieces belonging to Queen Elizabeth and from the late Princess Diana’s personal collection – some more than others. We look at five royal ornaments the duchess loves to wear.

Engagement ring

The most famous piece of jewellery that Catherine has worn is Diana’s sapphire engagement ring, which her husband, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge gave her to mark their union.

The oval, 12-carat blue sapphire sparked a new trend in gemstone engagement rings for brides all over the world.

In December 1996, a few months after her divorce from Prince Charles, Diana wore the ring paired with sapphire earrings at an event in New York City.

Tiara

The Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara is from the queen’s collection and Diana wore it quite frequently. Catherine also favours the piece, and has been seen in it at several royal outings.

The fabulous pearl and diamond creation is from the House of Garrard; numerous royals have worn it in the past, including the queen.

Earrings

These sapphire earrings were once part of Diana’s personal collection; William gave them to Catherine after they were engaged. The duchess modified the earrings, transforming the studs into a drop design.

Beautiful and understated, the earring gets plenty of playtime – Catherine likes to wear them with everything from day dresses to winter coats.

Necklace

This four-strand pearl necklace with a diamond clasp remains in the queen’s collection. It was last worn by the duchess at the 70th wedding anniversary celebration of the queen and duke of Edinburgh, in 2017.

Bracelet

Another pearl ornament Diana loved, and highly favoured by Catherine, is a three-strand bracelet by London jeweller Nigel Milne.

Catherine was seen wearing the bracelet at an event in Germany in 2017.
