What Lunar New Year gifts would you give your watch-nerd friends?

Three of the best Year of the Dog watches for Chinese New Year. Bow wow!

These limited edition Year of Dog-themed luxury timepieces provide a good starting point.

Such exclusive collector’s pieces also highlight each maison’s unique designs and high-end watchmaking.

What we love about this timepiece is that Blancpain interpreted the Chinese zodiac theme in a subtly luxurious way.

The watch features the traditional Chinese calendar, with the sign of the dog highlighted at 12 o’clock, as well as on the oscillating weight, which is visible through the crystal caseback.

The platinum timepiece, limited to 50 pieces only, comes with an impressive power reserve of seven days.

The Traditional Chinese Calendar model is available in a non-limited red-gold version.

You can also celebrate the Year of the Dog with Chopard’s limited-edition L.U.C XP Urushi timepiece. Only 88 pieces are available.

The ultra-thin timepiece features an Urushi dial crafted with Japanese lacquer.

The timepiece comes in a 39.5-millimetre (1.55-inch)-diameter case.

Panerai did not start creating Chinese zodiac-themed watches until 2009.

The first piece was the Luminor Sealand Chinese zodiac Watch, which celebrated the Year of the Ox. This year, the luxury watchmaker has created 88 pieces for the Year of the Dog.

The watch features an engraved cover created by a technique called sparsello, which inlays gold threads onto the engraved steel lid.

The 44mm-diameter watch runs on a P.9000 calibre.

Luxury watchmakers have raised their game this year when it comes to creative dials.

Breguet picked a fluffy Chow-chow for its limited-edition timepiece.

The Chow-chow is a precious breed from northern China.

The Classique 7145 Chow-Chow watch features a self-winding movement visible through the sapphire crystal caseback.

It comes in a limited edition of only eight pieces.
