SIHH 2019: Piaget’s Altiplano watches inspired by something that’s truly out of this world

Two of the three skinny timepieces unveiled by the Swiss luxury watchmaker at this year’s SIHH 2019 watch fair in Geneva contain pieces of a meteorite
Skinny timepieces continue to attract the most attention at Piaget, with inspiration for two of the Swiss luxury watchmaker’s new watches that came – literally – from out of this world.

Ultra-thin watches have become symbols of Piaget’s watchmaking excellence; the skinny Altiplano case has pushed watchmakers to challenge themselves to create movements and employ decorative arts to match.
Piaget has opted to dress two of its Altiplano watches in meteorite this year, creating unique faces for each of these references.
Featuring a meteorite dial tinted in grey, the 40mm Altiplano watch has a pink gold case with matching baton hour markers.
The textured dial has a simple two-hand time indication plus a date aperture at 3 o’clock, all of which are powered by an in-house manual movement that measures only 3mm.
A grey alligator strap completes each of the 300 limited edition pieces of this watch.
