STYLE Edit: what makes Richard Mille’s Bonbon collection eye candy for the wrist?

Richard Mille’s Litchi RM 07-03 is one of the new models in the colourful Bonbon Collection.

Luxury watch brand Richard Mille has released its Bonbon collection and unleashed a torrent of adjectives: playful, daring, colourful, rebellious, delectable, and one might add, funky.

Designed by Cécile Guenat, artistic director of Richard Mille, the collection is a joyous celebration of art, overlaid on the brand’s iconic models in the RM 16 family of rectangular shapes and the RM 07 and 37 ladies-sized pieces.

There are 10 models in the Bonbon Collection, four in the Sweets line and six in the Fruits line, with each model limited to 30 pieces. They are bold, vibrant works of art, created by craftsmen skilled in miniature sculpting and optical effects.

The six models in the Fruits line are no less whimsical. A wonderful spectrum of colours is used and there is a depth to the dial, achieved through skeletonising, which emphasises the clever graphic composition of the design.

The colour-gradient cases are made of carbon TPT and Quartz TPT, playing with attention-catching colours.

The Bonbon collection makes an artistic statement by making everyday objects exquisite, and by choosing a theme which evokes childhood, it reminds us not to take ourselves too seriously.
