STYLE Edit: Richard Mille shows taste for sweet surprises with limited edition Bonbon Collection
Only 30 of each ‘Fruit’ line timepiece, including ‘Fraise’, ‘Citron’ and ‘Kiwi’ are available – all decorated with tiny ‘confectionery’
The great delight of watchmaker Richard Mille, founder of his eponymous luxury Swiss brand, is that he never fails to surprise.
Yet even the keenest Richard Mille fan has been astonished by his latest bolt from the blue – the Bonbon Collection.
The collection’s “Fruit” line takes three of his iconic models, RM 16-01, RM 07-03 and RM 37-01, and offers them in a total of six astonishing, colourful and playful – even childlike – incarnations.
We associate Richard Mille with black but here we have a flavourful burst of amazing colours. The RM 16-01 models, for example, “Citron” (lemon) and “Fraise” (strawberry), contrast neon yellow and red with the textured black bezel.
The side views are highly original, showing the layers of Carbon TPT and Quartz TPT. Even the crowns are multi-coloured and sculptural.
The full impact comes when you look into the face of the new RM 16-01.
Half-slices of citrus fruit, licorice allsorts, lollipops and other sweets decorate the dial – each tiny piece painted in acrylic and hand-lacquered, then “sugared” with crushed enamel and fine sand.
