STYLE Edit: Panerai thinks slim with Luminor Due models

STORYSCMP Style Reporter
In 2016, Panerai introduced the Luminor Due, a thinner version of the iconic watch for enthusiasts looking for sleeker options in new colours and complications. This year, there were six new references unveiled as part of this collection, including two models in ‘Goldtech’ – the brand’s proprietary blend of gold, copper and platinum. This is the PAM01045. Calibre P. 4000, the thinnest automatic movement ever developed by Panerai, has a decentralised micro-rotor which feeds energy into two spring barrels that offer a power reserve of three days

Originally made for the Italian Navy in the 1950s, Panerai’s Luminor collection is hugely popular because of its distinct design – the sturdy cushion-shaped case, the large dial and the characteristic bridge-shaped device which seals the crown with a lever and protects it from accidental shocks.

While the use of platinum prevents oxidation, the gold and copper in these watches, lend a unique tint to the case.

For men, there is the robust PAM00675 available in a 42mm case, which is powered by the in-house skeletonised calibre P.4000/10 featuring a 22ct-gold oscillating weight and clous de Paris decoration. The women have the choice of going with the stylish PAM01045 offered in a gleaming 38mm Goldtech case. Contrasting with the gold case, the white dial and beige markers of the PAM01045 truly stand out on one’s wrist. Powered by the automatic Calibre P. 900, the watch is inviting because of its shiny, red alligator leather strap.

Inspired by the original design from the 1950s, the Luminor Due is now almost 40 per cent slimmer, thanks to calibre P. 4000, the thinnest automatic movement ever developed by the Panerai manufacture. The most distinctive feature of this calibre is the decentralised micro-rotor which rotates in both directions, feeding energy into the two spring barrels that offer a power reserve of three days. The beauty of this movement is best captured in the PAM01045 where the watch reveals every detail through the large porthole in sapphire glass on the caseback.

If you are looking for a Christmas gift, these two stunning timepieces should make your list!
