What’s so special about Cartier’s new Tank Asymétrique and Maillon de Cartier timepieces?

The French luxury jeweller has unveiled new models, including the limited, heritage-inspired Tank Asymétrique for men, and the ornate ladies’ bracelet-like Maillon de Cartier – as well as additions to the Santos and Santos-Dumont ranges
Each year, Cartier introduces fresh timepieces that bring joy to both watch and jewellery lovers. This year is no different, with the house’s launch of a number of new references as well as an entirely new collection dedicated to women.
First up, the Santos and Santos-Dumont both welcome new members into their families.

The Santos de Cartier gets an all-new, all-black reference this year, crafted in steel and with ADLC coating. The reference is a large model that measures 47.5mm x 39.8mm, with an automatic movement that powers the hours, minutes and seconds as well as the date display. The design comes with two interchangeable straps, one in rubber and the other black matt alligator.
Launched last year with quartz movements, the Santos-Dumont this year gets a new heartbeat. The Santos-Dumont XL’s simple and elegant face remains, but the movement that now drives the hour and minute hands is a manual-winding one. The XL measures 46.6mm x 33.9mm and is available in steel, pink gold, or a combination of steel and pink gold. Unlike the Santos, the Santos-Dumont has a blue cabochon sapphire crown, giving the design a more dress-up look.

A part of the Cartier Privé Collection is the new Tank that’s been given a twist. The Privé Collection is a range that celebrates Cartier’s watchmaking heritage. This year’s launch, the Tank Asymétrique, draws inspiration from a design that dates back to 1936.
Among the references launched in this collection is the Skeleton, an open work version with an in-house calibre 9623 MC. The asymmetrical rectangular shape of the timepiece lends it that humorous charm associated timepieces the Cartier Crash or the Cartier Cloche.
