Lew's shock over arrest in 'letter to Leung'
The Apple Daily has obtained a two-page letter purportedly sent on January 9 to Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying from his former ally Lew Mon-hung. In the letter, Lew said he was shocked that he was arrested by the Independent Commission Against Corruption the day before, and asked whether it was related to his criticism of Leung's handling of protest marches against national education and for the city's independence. He asked Leung to call on ICAC commissioner Simon Peh Yun-lu to ask his staff to deal with his case cautiously - or he would "detonate political bombs".

Christian group's vessel clears safety check - but won't start 
The Christian Zheng Sheng Association has been unable to use a second-hand vessel for over a year after it broke down. The vessel was bought with HK$940,000 from an anti-drug foundation. Zheng Sheng said the vessel's engine and safety gear failed - after the Marine Department inspected it and issued a safety certificate. Zheng Sheng made a police report but the department refused to check the vessel again, hence the delay. The vessel was meant to take students to and from Cheung Chau, where Zheng Sheng's rehabilitation school is located.

Retiree complains to ICAC about Donald Tsang
A retiree has complained to the ICAC about former chief executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen accepting benefits, after Marine Department investigators reported that Tsang had not paid the HK$500 he claimed he had paid for a return trip from Macau on a tycoon's luxury boat in February last year. He also accused former ICAC commissioner Timothy Tong Hin-ming of protecting Tsang by procrastinating over the case. He urged the graft-busters to speed up the probe, which has dragged on for a year - or he would stage a protest at its North Point headquarters.

Police station burgled over Lunar New Year holiday
More than HK$20,000 worth of newly installed electric switches and circuit breakers were stolen over the Lunar New Year holiday from the Lei Muk Shue Police Station, where renovations have been under way to turn it into a detective training centre. Workers discovered the burglary when they returned to work after the break. The thieves apparently ignored a notice posted outside the station warning that surveillance cameras were operating inside.

HK baby milk powder smuggled by sea to Guangxi via Vietnam
Smugglers may be shipping by sea containers of foreign-branded baby milk formula from Hong Kong to Guangxi , via Vietnam, before the goods are distributed across the mainland. Ming Pao Daily reporters visited the Guangxi capital Nanning , near the border with Vietnam, and found Hong Kong-imported milk formula being sold there. The prices were cheaper than in Guangzhou. This could not have happened if parallel-goods traders had smuggled their wares to the mainland on the train.

Rafael Hui moves out of luxury Leighton Hill
Former chief secretary Rafael Hui Si-yan, who was arrested in March last year for allegedly receiving benefits from two directors of developer Sun Hung Kai Properties, has moved out of Leighton Hill, an SHKP luxury project in Happy Valley. Ming Pao Daily reportedly got the news from two caretakers at the project, although the developer did not respond to press queries. One of the main charges against Hui is that he has been living in the SHKP luxury project for free.
