More than 350 staff, students, alumni and partners of Hang Seng Management College (HSMC) attended a special “Foundation Inauguration Ceremony cum Fundraising Dinner” at The Mira Hong Kong on October 20.

At the prestigious event, which raised more than HK$6 million, Rose Lee Wai-mun, chairman of HSMC’s board of governors, reminded guests about the establishment of Hang Seng School of Commerce back in 1980.

A restructuring, in response to changes in Hong Kong’s education system, created the current set-up in 2010. And looking to the future, Lee also outlined plans to apply for full university status next year.

“Our aim is to grow into an elite private university focusing on fields like business management, the humanities and social sciences,” she said. “Apart from offering a diverse array of degree programmes, we will also work to develop research projects as a way of giving back to society.”

At the dinner, the colour green was very much in evidence, reflecting the predominant shade used in the college’s logo and efforts to promote good environmental practices on campus. HSMC uses bamboo as building material in many of its facilities and has always been a keen supporter of sustainable development.
