MBA Watch: The Rotman School of Management- University of Toronto

Tiff Macklem, Dean of the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto and former senior deputy governor of the Bank of Canada, came to Hong Kong in November as part of a scheduled Asia tour.
Despite being a prestigious business institution for decades, Macklem has helped take the school to new heights. In terms of academic rankings, Rotman has emerged as the top business school in Canada, and one of the best in the entire world. From a research standpoint, Rotman is third in the world behind only Harvard Business School and the Wharton School of Business, according to the latest rankings released by the Financial Times.
“Our two flagship programmes are our undergraduate commerce programme, a four-year course which takes in 700 students every year, and our full-time, two-year MBA programme which takes in 350,” says Macklem. “The scale gives us an advantage, because we have such a depth of MBA talent, the world’s largest companies all look to recruit students from Rotman.”

With Toronto being an international and financial hub, it’s not surprising that Rotman has a very high international student population, with a ratio that hovers at around 40 per cent for undergraduates and 50 per cent for MBA students. Among this diverse range of pupils, “certainly the largest international cohort” comes from Hong Kong and Mainland China.
