Event: Women of Our Time conference
The inaugural event organised by the South China Morning Post aims to give influential and inspirational women a platform to share reflections and insights about their achievements, and more.

Hong Kong may be praised as one of the world’s most dynamic cities, but there are still all sorts of areas in which any international repost card would have to say “could do better”. In particular, the number of women in senior positions, whether in business, academia, the administration or elsewhere is far too few, which means, in broad terms, that talents are being underutilised and opportunities denied.
With that in mind, the South China Morning Post is taking a lead in addressing the issue by organising the inaugural Women of Our Time conference, which will take place on Thursday, 28 November at the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong.
The thinking behind the event is to give influential and inspirational women a suitable platform to share reflections and insights about what has helped them get where they are today and, no doubt, to highlight some of the special challenges that had to be overcome along the way.
Individual stories of the featured speakers and panellists will touch on topics as diverse as entrepreneurial vision, talent development, and implementing innovative business strategies. The case studies and discussions are expected to provide valuable lessons in leadership and new perspectives on management. And respected advocates for greater gender equality will have the chance to present their views and explain how and where progress can be achieved.
The event line-up includes such distinguished women leaders as Christine Ip Yeung See-ming, chief executive of United Overseas Bank (UOB) Hong Kong; Dr Christine Loh Kung-wai, under secretary for the environment for the Hong Kong government; Angelina Kwan, chief executive officer and founder, Stratford Finance; Professor Judy Tsui, vice president (International and Executive Education) and chair professor of Accounting, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Jennifer Liu, chairman and founder, Sir Hudson Hospitality; and Esther Ma, chief executive officer and founder of Prestique.
Among the panellists are Maaike Steinebach, chief executive of the Hong Kong branch of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia; Dr Janet De Silva, dean of Ivey Asia; and Susanna Chiu, president of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA). All are known not just for a high level of achievement in their respective fields, but also for their efforts to initiate necessary change and encourage others to act.
