HKU SPACE offer programmes to fast track future leaders

In order to thrive in an increasingly complex business environment, managers and potential leaders know that certain skills are vital. These include critical thinking, decision making and the abilities to analyse, set a clear direction, execute strategies, and empower others to ensure each process works efficiently.

However, prospective leaders also know that the right postgraduate programme will put them on the fast track to acquiring the necessary skills. And courses like the MSc in Business Management or the MSc in Managerial Leadership, which are offered by Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) in Scotland in conjunction with the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKU SPACE), are carefully tailored to meet the present and future needs of executives looking to reach the top in various areas of international business.

“Both part-time programmes are aimed at management practitioners, business professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs of all ages and from a broad spectrum of backgrounds and experience,” says Tammy Kwok, assistant programme director, HKU SPACE College of Business and Finance, who also highlights that ENU graduates are rated in the top 10 in Britain for employability.

The two programmes are taught in a classroom setting and require participants to complete six core modules. There is a further module on research methods and a dissertation. Most students take two years to complete the course, but a maximum of four years is allowed.

“Each module is taught by lecturers from Edinburgh Napier University [who travel to Hong Kong] with tutorial support from HKU SPACE,” Kwok says.

Courses have been designed and content specifically chosen to help managers and leaders respond to changing needs in a competitive economic and business environment. They have the chance to understand management processes within a global context and appreciate differences between theory and practice.

The class-time for each module is 30 hours. Students generally take two modules over a three-month period, concluding with final examinations. Overall contact hours are divided equally between ENU and HKU SPACE lecturers, with classes usually comprising 20 to 30 students from a range of industries and backgrounds.
