Chris Patten became the latest VIP to be trapped in a Hong Kong lift.
Firemen had to be called to free Mr Patten and wife, Lavender, from the VIP lift at Chek Lap Kok yesterday in a drama that lasted 'about five minutes'.
However, Mr Patten said he thought the new airport 'looked terrific. I think it's absolutely splendid. I didn't have to spend as long in the elevator as President [Bill] Clinton.' Mr Clinton was trapped in a lift for almost 10 minutes at the Convention and Exhibition Centre during his July visit.
And in May, Mr Tung was trapped for about 40 minutes in a lift with his son and baby grand-daughter at the son's home at Pokfulam.
The Chek Lap Kok lift had last been checked on Monday, an airport spokesman said. Five other people were trapped with the Pattens.
