Australia’s prime minister has suggested an anti-Muslim senator should be charged after he hit a teen who cracked a raw egg over the legislator’s head.
Senator Fraser Anning has been widely condemned for blaming Muslim immigration for racist attacks on two New Zealand mosques that claimed at least 50 lives.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Sunday took the side of the egger, telling reporters: “The full force of the law should be applied to Senator Anning.”
Footage, shared widely on social media, showed Anning being approached from behind at a political event on Saturday, before having an egg cracked on the back of his head.

The footage showed Anning appearing to try to hit the teen, before the teen was dragged to the ground by others.
Victoria Police released a statement saying the incident was being investigated “in its entirety” and that it involved a 17-year-old boy.
A GoFundMe campaign had raised more than A$27,000 ($19,000) for the teenager to cover the cost of legal fees and so he could “buy more eggs” by Sunday and the hashtag #EggBoy was trending on Twitter.

Anning, who entered parliament on the One Nation Queensland ticket when senator Malcolm Roberts was disqualified from parliament, delivered a racially inflammatory speech in August invoking the White Australia policy and using the term “final solution”.
The speech was widely condemned and resulted in the Senate unanimously adopting a motion reaffirming Australia’s commitment to a racially non-discriminatory immigration policy although a separate Greens motion to censure Anning was voted down by the Coalition and Labor for fear of making him a martyr.
