Climate be damned, Asia is stocking up on filthy fuel oil to combat a looming winter gas shortage

  • Japan’s imports of fuel oil surged to a four-year high in August, as South Korea, Pakistan and Taiwan have also upped their purchases before winter
  • Fuel oil, most commonly used to power ships, is a fallback option for utilities when gas supplies are scarce. Its use is sharply increasing this year
