
The Nepal earthquake has so far killed more than 3,200 people and left tens of thousands of people shell-shocked, sleeping in the streets, and struggling to come to terms with the disaster.
Saturday’s magnitude 7.8 earthquake - the worst in Nepal for 80 years - spread horror from Kathmandu to small villages and to the slopes of Mount Everest. It triggered a massive avalanche that buried part of the base camp packed with foreign climbers preparing to make their summit attempts. At least 18 people died there and 61 were injured.
Kathmandu district chief administrator Ek Narayan Aryal said that tents and water were being handed at 10 locations in Kathmandu, but that repeated aftershocks were leaving everyone jittery.
Yesterday, families cremated the dead and kept up the search for the missing. They also mourned the loss of life and culture, with many historic buildings destroyed.
