Coronavirus: how India’s largest slum beat back the pandemic, for now

  • So far the Dharavi slum has reported just 82 deaths – a fraction of Mumbai’s more than 4,500 fatalities – with more than half the population screened
  • With a dozen people sleeping in a single room, and hundreds using the same public toilet, authorities realised early on a non-standard approach would be needed
