Malaysia will not pick a fight with the country hosting 1MDB fugitive Jho Low, Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said on Thursday.
“We can go to war, but we will lose the war and Jho Low. We are conscious that we are not a very strong nation,” he said. “Sometimes people are nice to us, sometimes they are not. We have to accept that.”
He did not name the country concerned.
Mahathir also said he was not privy to every development in the case.

“[Inspector General of Police Abdul Hamid] has told me where he has found him … it is not every time when he knows where Jho Low is supposed to be and he rings me up. Once in a while, he tells me,” Mahathir said.
The prime minister was speaking to the media after he and his wife were awarded honorary doctorates in creative arts by a university in Kuala Lumpur on November 7.
Mahathir said the Malaysian government was doing all it could to bring back Low to face charges.
“We are working hard on it to get information, but information is not easy to get,” he said. “I am told he may carry several passports, he may have undergone several alterations to his face. All these rumours, we don’t have proof.”

On November 6, police chief Abdul Hamid voiced his frustration with an unnamed country, which he said was aiding Low and refusing to cooperate with Malaysia.
He also said the country had made some wild claims about Low, including that the billionaire fugitive had radically changed his appearance through plastic surgery, Malaysia’s Berita Harian reported.
Hamid said Low was “hiding like a chicken” in the same country and had not moved to Cyprus, as reported by some media outlets.
Cypriot bishop denies pushing for Jho Low to get EU passport
Cyprus this week said it would begin the process of revoking citizenship from 26 individuals, including Jho Low, who obtained Cypriot nationality through the country’s investment-for-passport programme.
The withdrawal process is focused on investors who obtained a total of 26 passports, including for family members, Interior Minister Constantinos Petrides told reporters in Nicosia.
Jho Low is among those who will be stripped of Cypriot citizenship, a senior government official said.

The decision to revoke Cypriot citizenship will cover one Malaysian, five Chinese, eight Cambodians, nine Russians, two Kenyans and one Iranian, the government official said.
Cyprus will also review all individuals who have obtained some 4,000 passports under the programme, while the government plans to ensure strict observance and implementation of the investment program framework, the minister said.
The program has benefited Cyprus and the country needs to safeguard its image, Petrides said.
