Forget February 14, it seems the most romantic day of this year is actually February 22 as hundreds of couples flock to make it their wedding day. About 500 couples are planning to get married on this unique date. That’s nearly nine times the usual number.

The once-in-a-lifetime number, has got the superstitious wanting to tie the knot on such an auspicious date. Does this mean Valentine’s Day will be passing the crown for the most romantic time of the year?

As of the last count on January 24, about 483 couples filed to register their nuptials at the Registry of Marriages (ROM). The final figure is expected to hit the 500 mark.

This year, February 22 falls on a Tuesday. On an average weekday there are about 58 marriages, so to have nearly 500 is about nine times the usual number.

Meanwhile, on what is traditionally the most romantic day of the year, Valentine’s Day, there were fewer than 100 couples that filed to register their marriage ceremonies.

There are a few reasons why 22.02.2022 is so popular. It is a palindromic date – the same number read backwards as it is forwards – which makes it easier to remember, so no excuses for missing anniversaries.

It is undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime date, which means it feels unique and extra special to many. It’s also an auspicious date for weddings and engagements in the Chinese calendar because of the even numbers.
