Vietnam hopes to take tourism to new heights with world’s longest glass bridge
- The 150m high Bach Long bridge spans a valley between two mountains and can withstand the weight of at least 500 people walking across it
- The glass-floored structure in Moc Chau was opened to visitors to mark 47 years since the Vietnam war ended
The world’s longest bridge with a see-through floor opened for all brave travellers ready to cross between two mountain’s in Vietnam on Friday.
Located in the country’s northern highlands, the glass-floored bridge is the latest attraction in a mountainous area already one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations.
Opening to mark 47 years since the Vietnam war ended, White Dragon Bridge, or Bach Long in Vietnamese, measures 632 metres long and is comprised of three layers of 40mm tempered glass.
“We hope the launching of the bridge will help our company to attract both local and foreign tourists to Moc Chau district,” said Mai Tri Tue, deputy director of 26 Moc Chau Tourism Company.
“We have submitted a dossier to seek Guinness World Records recognition as the longest pedestrian glass bridge in the world.”
Even if a pane of glass shatters, the bridge can still withstand a weight of five tonnes, according to the company.
The organisation says it tested the bridge by allowing heavy trucks and cars to drive across it following installation.
