Malaysia resort owner under fire for allegedly allowing ‘wild’ swimsuit party
- Photos of the event in Terengganu state’s Lang Tengah Island have gone viral on social media
- An official said the venue’s owner would be summoned to provide an explanation regarding the gathering
According to the Malay-language newspaper Sinar Harian, state legislative assembly member Razali Idris said the resort had been requested to provide an explanation regarding the issue that has been viral on social media since Tuesday.
The meeting will also involve the Terengganu Islamic Religious Affairs Department and the Kuala Terengganu City Council.
“We will investigate this matter first. If there are any violations in terms of regulations or any acts, we will take action.
“We will carefully examine the response from the private resort before taking any action,” said Razali, who is in charge of the tourism, culture, environment and climate change portfolio, on Tuesday.
He also urged the public to provide any information regarding the issue to the authorities.
“If there is evidence that it violates regulations or if there are Muslims involved in the party, it can be reported to the religious office for further investigation,” he said.
On Tuesday, posters and photos showing women dressed in swimsuits at a party allegedly held on the island went viral.
