Malaysian rapper Namewee and the late Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh had a “special relationship”, according to police.
“They are friends and they have other relationships that I will not get into,” Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Fadil Marsus said when he met reporters after a Deepavali celebration at contingent headquarters on Tuesday.
“I do not need to reveal the full extent, but it is a ‘special’ relationship.”
He added that her body has yet to be claimed and police were still awaiting the toxicology report.
“That will take time. We will determine our suggestions to the deputy public prosecutor in the near future,” he said.
Hsieh was found dead in a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur on October 22.
Her death was initially said to be a sudden death report, but police reclassified it as murder on November 4.


Investigations revealed that Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, was the last person seen with the 31-year-old victim in a room at a Kuala Lumpur hotel at about 1.40pm on October 22.
He was arrested for possession and use of drugs, but released after claiming trial to drug-related charges at the Jalan Duta Court on October 24.
He showed up voluntarily at Dang Wangi district police headquarters on November 5 to help with the murder investigation and was subsequently detained.
He was remanded for six days initially, but police obtained a three-day extension on Monday until Thursday.
