Built 3D printer at 17
A 17-year-old boy from Chongqing has built his own 3D printer for 1,000 yuan (HK$1,250), the Chongqing Morning Post reports. The teenager started work on the project after he finished his exams this summer and it took him a month. His mother said he always had an interest in machinery and had taken equipment apart including copiers and computers since he was a child.
Spent neighbour’s cash
A man has been arrested for allegedly racking up debts of 68,0000 yuan on a neighbour’s credit card for over a year without him knowing, the Chongqing Business Times reports. The owner only found out when the credit card company told him how much money he owed. After a police investigation, the culprit turned out to be a neighbour who lived above his apartment.
Guangxi
Stole electricity meters
A man from Lingchuan county near Guilin has been arrested for allegedly posing as an employee at the state power company and stealing electricity meters from more than 80 homes, the Guilin Evening News reports. The middle-aged man told residents that their old meters needed an upgrade to ensure accuracy. The suspect told the police he was a former State Grid  employee and selling the old meters on the black market brought a higher income than his salary.
Bank savings bungle
A man in Nanning put 3,000 yuan into his bank account, but was puzzled to find it was still in his pocket when he got home, the Modern Life Daily reports. The bank spent a day investigating and found the clerk registered the cash into his account, but then immediately handed it back to him. The bank said she had been overworked.
Guizhou
Migrant staff job fair
Forty-seven companies from Guiyang have held a job fair in Ningbo in Zhejiang to try to attract migrant workers to come back and work in their home province, the Guizhou Du Shi Bao reports. More than 1,000 jobseekers from Guizhou went to the event, but only 85 people signed a contract. The migrant workers said they wanted to return home, but the salaries offered by companies in the province were  lower than those on offer in richer coastal regions.
The fly collector
A retired doctor in Anshun has spent 36 years building up a collection of more than 160,000 flies and says one of the best places to find them is around public toilets, the Guizhou Business News reports. The 63-year-old said he had accidently put a dead fly under a microscope and was stunned by its intricacy and beauty. He said that on one occasion he visited a public toilet nearly 10 days in a row to collect the insects. He has discovered several new species over the decades.

‘Drunks’ in police car
Three men in a police car ran off after colliding with another vehicle in the centre of Haikou on Saturday, the news website Hinews.cn  reports. The other motorists said the police car was speeding before the two vehicles crashed at a crossroads. The driver said the three men in the police car smelled as if they were drunk and they tried to settle the dispute  without alerting the authorities. They left after the driver called the police.
Cattle boat sinks
A boat carrying more than 40 cattle sank off the coast of Haikou on Saturday, the Hainan Daily reports. Three crew and four bulls swam to shore, but the other animals died. The crew disappeared before the police arrived and the authorities suspect they were smuggling the animals.

Car blast investigation
Police in Shangshui county near Zhoukou are investigating whether straw burning in a field led to a car exploding, Xinhua reports. A motorist said he drove into thick smoke generated by the fire on a rural road and lost his bearings. After he parked on the roadside, his car was quickly engulfed in flames. The car’s fuel tank exploded soon after he and a passenger got out.
Police drill nabs suspect
A fugitive was arrested in Zhengzhou on Saturday after he was unwittingly caught up in a police drill, the news website Dahe.cn reports. The man was wanted for assault since August last year and was recognised at a park in Zhengzhou and ran off. A police officer restrained him, believing that it was part of the city-wide drill hunting for suspects in a simulated shop robbery.
Hubei
Beaten unconscious
A father beat unconscious a 60-year-old man after he chided his young son in the street, the Wuhan Evening News reports. The boy, aged five, scratched the elderly man with a shopping trolley and was told off. The father was incensed, an argument started and he beat and kicked the older man unconscious. He was treated in hospital and is now recovering at home. Police are trying to trace the father and have released footage of the attack.
Police chief has stroke
The police chief in Honghu near Jingzhou had a stoke, with the authorities saying it was due to overwork, Xinhua reports. He fell ill while working a night shift. He is in a stable condition in hospital.

Peeping Tom caught
A man in Yilong county  near Nanchong  tried to take a secret photograph of a nurse in a hospital toilet, but was caught because he forgot to turn the flash off on his smartphone’s camera, the West China City Daily reports. The man, aged 50, will be placed in detention for four days. The report said he was the first Peeping Tom known to have been caught by the county’s police.
‘Hero’ accused of rape
A man in Zigong  who was hailed as a hero for fighting off a robber armed with a knife has been arrested over a rape four years ago, the West China City Daily reports. DNA samples were taken after the robbery and linked the man, 58, to a sex attack on a 16-year-old girl at a hotel in 2010. The rapist was not identified at the time because he wore a mask.
Xinjiang
Help for poorer students
Over 500 students joined in a 30km walk in Urumqi  to raise money to help women college students from low-income families, the news website Chinanews.com reports. The event raised about 40,000 yuan. It will be shared between about 100 students. This is the fourth year the walk has been held. It has raised a total of 5 million yuan for 3,866 students. The organiser hopes similar fundraising events will be held in other parts of the mainland. The Ministry of Education said in August that all universities should ensure they enrol students from low-income backgrounds rather than only pick richer students.
Police turn firefighters
Six police officers had to come to the rescue in Bohu county after a fire broke out and the firefighters’ truck broke down, the news website Chinanews.com reports. After a shed caught fire and flames began spreading to a nearby retirement home, the police were forced to take action after they were told the fire department could not get there quickly. The flames were put out in 45 minutes with no casualties reported.
