Courier complaints rise
Shenzhen's consumer council received 324 complaints about courier services in the third quarter of the year - more than five times the number during the same period last year, the Southern Metropolis News reports. More than half of the complaints involved fake products while about 20 per cent of them were about damaged or lost packages. The courier companies could not be held responsible for fraud committed by the seller because they were only responsible for shipping, the report said.
Airport extends bus links
Shenzhen International Airport is building more express bus terminals in cities across the province to offer direct links to the airport as the facility competes with other regional airports for passengers, Guangzhou Daily reports. The latest bus terminal opened last week in Heyuan , 190km from Shenzhen, becoming the first outside the Pearl River Delta. Ten coaches will operate on the route between the two cities. Tickets are 100 yuan (HK$126), and passengers can check in their bags before boarding the bus.

Man catches python
A man in Zhangzhou captured a two-metre Burmese python barehanded near his village, Taihainet.com reports. The man, surnamed Wu, spotted the reptile weighing more than 20kg lying around the base of a tree near Dongkeng village, Punan town, on Monday. Using a stick to hold down the head, Wu grabbed the snake's body and put it into a bag. He said the species was quite placid towards humans if you didn't try to attack it. He later handed the python to the local forestry police. Burmese pythons, which are common in Southeast Asia and southern China, can grow to six metres in length.
 
BBQ ends badly
Seventeen students from a vocational school in Zhangzhou suffered carbon monoxide poisoning during an indoor barbecue dinner at a local restaurant on Monday, the news website Fjsen.com reports. They were still being treated yesterday at three hospitals.

Two die on boat trip
Two people were confirmed dead and three others were missing after a fishing boat carrying tourists sank off Wenchang yesterday morning, Hinews.cn reports. The provincial maritime affairs bureau confirmed that 11 of the 16 people on board were saved. Most of the passengers were tourists from Shaanxi province, the report said. The cause of the sinking is being investigated.

The director of Tunchang county's anti-graft bureau was relieved of his duties on Monday by local authorities after his wife called police saying he was having sex with a mistress at their home on Sunday night, the Hainan Special Zone Daily reports. The wife also posted details of their clash online, attracting the attention of more than 10,000 internet users.

Bus windows shot out
Police in Lianyungang are investigating why windows on a number of buses were broken by projectiles during suspected drive-by incidents at a bus station, the news website Dsqq.cn reports. The buses were hit on October 28, 29 and November 1. The identity of the suspects and the weapons they used remain a mystery. There were no witnesses but no one was hurt in the incidents.
H7N9 case in Nanjing
A 58-year-old woman in Nanjing was confirmed on Sunday to be infected with the H7N9 bird flu virus, the first case since May, the news website Jschina.com.cn reports. The woman bought a live chicken and killed it two weeks ago.

Burglar nabs robot
A burglar has been arrested in Jilin after breaking into a dozen upmarket homes in the city, Iqilu.com reports. Among the haul of expensive tobacco, alcohol and artefacts found the man's flat, police were surprised to see a Transformer Autobot model. It turned out to be a gift from one of the burglary victims to his son. Police said the suspect had taken anything that interested him during his spree of break-ins that started on September 25.
Rabbit hunt backlash
Animal lovers in Weihai were appalled after a man posted pictures of wild rabbits being hunted in cornfields in the surrounding countryside, boasting that he had killed more than 100 of the animals since October, the news website SDNews.com.cn reports. The man said he hunted the rabbits to protect the crops. But local wildlife protection officers said both the hunting and selling of wild animals was illegal.

Equipment fair opens
The 16th China International Industry Fair opened yesterday at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in the Pudong New Area, the news website Jfdaily.com reports. The five-day annual event is one the leading trade shows for equipment manufacturing in China, with various domestically developed aircraft and space and marine equipment being exhibited.
Job subsidies offered
Enterprises involved in sanitation, urban maintenance and services for the elderly in the city will be given subsidies of 800 yuan per month for each long-term jobless permanent resident they hire, the news website Eastday.com reports. It is hoped the subsidies will encourage employers to offer more jobs to the unemployed.

Four die in pile-up
Four people were killed and another eight injured in a 12-car pile-up in Zizhong county on Monday, the news website Scol.com.cn reports. The accident happened in the early evening when a truck driver lost control of his vehicle on National Highway 321 and ploughed into oncoming traffic. Villagers rescued two people trapped inside two vehicles before emergency workers arrived. The truck driver was detained by police.
Drug den for rent
A man was detained by police in Dazhou for renting his flat to local drug users, the news website Scol.com.cn reports. The flat had been well known among local addicts as a place to take drugs. The man charged drug users 100 yuan each per visit.

Road to outside world
An 80km highway linking Dulongjiang, home to the country's smallest ethnic group, to the outside world will open by February, the China News Service reports. The 780 million yuan project, which includes a tunnel, will cut travel time from the township to the rest of Gongshan county from five hours to two. The Dulong ethnic group, who number about 4,000, live among the deep gorges of the Dulong River that runs through the province's remote frontier with Myanmar.
Death for cabbie killer
A 44-year-old man in Kunming has been sentenced to death in the city's intermediate people's court for a series of violent robberies last year of several drivers who ran illegal taxi businesses, the news website Yunnan.cn reports. The man was armed with a knife and launched his attacks in the middle of the night. One of his victims died. The man, a Sichuan native, had been jobless in Kunming for years. He was sentenced to 12 years in jail for robbery in 2005 and was released in 2011.
