At least 14 people were killed and 47 injured when a huge explosion torn through a busy hotpot restaurant in China’s northern Shanxi province on Friday night.
The explosion happened at 7:52 pm in a hotpot restaurant named "Xiyangyang" in Jinzhong city. A fire broke out afterwards.
Six people were killed immediately. Eight others died in a local hospital after sustaining serious injuries.
Local authorities said the massive blast might have been caused by explosions of liquefied petroleum gas tanks, which the restaurant used for cooking, according to China's CCTV.
The explosion was so powerful that glass windows of some nearby houses were shattered, said local residents.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire by Friday midnight , reported local media.
