Beijing demands action after Chinese woman allegedly raped in Delhi

China has called on the Indian government to ensure the safety of its nationals after a Chinese woman was allegedly raped in New Delhi.

The Chinese embassy in New Delhi said it reacted with "shock and strong anger".

Indian media reported on Thursday that a 23-year-old woman from Beijing was allegedly raped on January 30.

The woman said she met a man at a party and he invited her to his home. She reported the case to police on Tuesday, and the man is being held in custody for 14 days.

The embassy urged the Indian government to deal with the incident seriously and punish her assailant.

It also warned Chinese nationals in India, especially women, to stay alert and avoid going out alone.
