Chongqing man saved by quick-acting police after posting suicide note online
Officers track down suicidal man within an hour of his post
A young man in China’s southwestern Sichuan province was rescued by police early on Monday after posting a suicide note on Weibo, China’s twitter-like service, according to Chinese media reports.
The man named “JolinSHE” ,whose profile said he was in Chongqing, posted a photo of his slashed wrists at 12.41am. The post alerted netizens, who quickly re-posted it and notified Chongqing police.
An hour later, police found the man in a hotel room in Chengdu, 340km from Chongqing. He was rushed to a local hospital.
The man was returned to his home in Chongqing on Monday afternoon, police said.
It’s not clear what drove him to attempt suicide.
While relieved that he is alive, many netizens were also impressed by his quick rescue by police, who managed to track down the blogger within an hour of his post.
It’s not clear whether police found him by via his IP address or received tips about his location.
A Chongqing police officer surnamed Li told SCMP.com on Tuesday that netizens had provided "key information" that lead to the successful rescue.
Sina Weibo boasted more than 500 million registered users since last year, of whom 46 million were active daily users, according to a Xinhua report.
