A jilted man from Shandong province, who threatened to bomb a plane which his then girlfriend was taking last year, spent a lonely Valentine’s Day in prison, according to a Jinan Licheng District Court verdict.

The Shangdong man surnamed Yin was sentenced to two years in prison for disrupting public order, after the court heard he claimed to have placed a bomb on a flight to Wuhan in a phone call to Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport’s hotline on September 25 last year, the China Daily reported on Friday.

The airport immediately reported the matter to the police and stopped the flight. All the passengers, including Yin’s former girlfriend surnamed Fu, were evacuated from the flight, which was preparing for take-off on the runway, Shandong television reported last year.

When told Fu was to fly to Wuhan to get back together with her ex-boyfriend, a heartbroken Yin threatened to bomb her flight, Wei Shouhe, a policeman in charge of the case told reporters.

Three hours after the evacuation of the plane, police found Yin in an internet cafe in Mengyin county. He admitted to having made up the bomb threat in a bid to persuade Fu to stay.

The flight to Wuhan, though delayed for over three hours, took off after his arrest.
