Two former Shanxi officials were expelled from the Communist Party, months after they were placed under internal investigation for graft, the mainland's top graft-buster said yesterday.

Both Jin Daoming, 61, the former vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Shanxi Provincial People's Congress, and Shen Weichen, 57, former party secretary and executive vice-president of the China Association for Science and Technology, took advantage of their positions to take huge amounts of bribes, according to the party watchdog, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

They also received gifts and cash from others and committed adultery, the commission alleged. Evidence of their alleged crimes was handed over to prosecutors, it said.
