Guangdong yesterday reported two patients infected with H7N9 bird flu, one of whom had recovered. Xinhua reported that one of the two confirmed cases was a 66-year-old male resident of Shenzhen. He was in critical condition in hospital, the report cited the provincial health and family planning commission as saying. A one-year-old girl from Shanwei had recovered after medical treatment. She tested positive for H7N9 on Friday, the commission said. Staff Reporter

The number of airline passengers over the Lunar New Year is set rise 8 per cent year on year to 47.52 million, according to the Civil Aviation Administration. The travel period starts on February 4 and lasts until March 16. Xinhua reported that domestic airlines were expected to add 12,000 flights per week to cope with the anticipated surge in passenger numbers. Staff Reporter

A cold front will sweep the northern parts the country until Wednesday, bringing lower temperatures and snow, the National Meteorological Centre forecast. Xinhua reported that temperatures in some areas in the north and northeast would fall by up to 10 degrees Celsius in the next three days. Sleet and snow would hit parts of Tibet , Sichuan , Yunnan , Guizhou and Inner Mongolia , it said. Rainfall will moderate and move eastward from the southwest to regions south of the Yangtze River and other parts of south China. Staff Reporter
