The plight of an eight-year-old boy in China who has a rare disease that makes his skin so fragile that it can blister with only a light touch has stirred widespread sympathy online and attracted more than 59,000 yuan (HK$74,400) in donations to help with his medical care.

Song Liucheng has the inherited disease epidermolysis bullosa and his case was featured by newspapers in northern Henan province and also on state television.

The money collected has been raised since Sunday evening after the first stories appeared on Friday.

Four of his fingers on both hands are fused together and have no fingernails, but he still goes to school and wants to study at university.
