A local Communist Party official with links to Ling Jihua, the former presidential aide under investigation for corruption, has been sacked.

Chen Wei, the party chief in the city of Zaozhuang in eastern Shandong province, had close ties to Ling's wife Gu Liping and was removed from his post last month, Thepaper.cn reported.

Authorities have not confirmed the report, but his résumé has been removed from the city government's website. He was absent from a meeting of the provincial people's congress last month, the report claimed.

Another businessman from Shandong with close ties to Gu was also reported to be "helping" the probe into her husband.

The news magazine Caijing claimed last month that Zeng Xianbo had conspired to help Gu flee to Japan on a yacht, but he has publicly denied doing so.

Gu, her younger brother Gu Yuanxu and his wife, the CCTV producer Luo Fanghua , have all been detained by the government's anti-corruption department as part of the investigation into Ling.

The government announced in December that Ling, a former aide to ex-president Hu Jintao , was being investigated.
